Wall Planner? What Wall Planner?? – Scams

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Wall Planner? What Wall Planner?Towards the end of October 2008 I receive a phone call from an advertising agency regarding a wall planner they were producing for a charity and being polite I listened to all their sales pitch. I listened to what they intended to do, to how my company could help with their goals by taking out an advertisement in their planner and to how this would cost me mere £495.

As I had already taken up such advertisements with 2 other advertising agencies I advised the sales representative that I did not wish to take up their service and that should have been the end of it. As you can imagine, I was a very surprised she told me that “you have already agreed to this a few months back”.

I do remember having a conversation with them a couple of months previous when my finances were stretched (as they always seem to be) and I agreed that they could call in a couple of months to see if my circumstances were any better, but to the best of my recollection I had made no such agreement. I had no letters from them about this agreement, no emails, not even any notes to indicate that I had agreed to this, and with both of the other advertising agencies only charging around £200, this commitment of £495 is definitely something I should have been aware of!

Is Self-Employment really for me?

Monday, October 20th, 2008

There are plenty of advertisements on TV, radio and the internet for becoming self-employed and all seem to highlight the same ideas

- More money
- Less & more flexible hours
- Do the projects that you want to do
- Be your own boss

Is this really for you? From the lines above I bet almost everyone is saying yes but there will be a few of you who are slightly more sceptical.

Like the majority of you I said “yes” too, however I found that there were a number of pitfalls and I eventually had to concede defeat and admit I failed.

My aim for this article is not to discourage you from trying self-employment but rather to try and highlight self employment from the other perspective and show the difficulties that can be faced rather than just stating the potential benefits. Hopefully this will help you to avoid the same mistakes I made and really make sure that you are ready for self-employment before jumping in with both feet.

Working From Home – Avoiding the Scams

How can you really tell what could earn you money??There are literally thousands of websites out there which supposedly tell you how to make “thousands of dollars” in a matter of days or weeks with little or no effort but could this be you?

I my honest and blunt opinion… no! While I’m sure someone along the line is earning that income from the programme I’m also sure that 99% of people who use these programs end up of out pocket rather than rolling in money.

If you’ve been using the internet for a while you’ve probably come across a good few of these sites and they follow a general formula

  • Title – Tells visitor how much they can earn using their system
  • Proof it works – Screenshots of PayPal payment records or cheques
  • Tell you what you could do with they money… buy a car, go on holiday
  • Insist it’s not like all the others you’ve seen
  • Tell you it’s 100% guaranteed
  • And finally how much the program is going to cost!

Now looking at that list there I find that there is one major thing missing… what is it that you do? You know it’s a system but you’ve got no idea what the system is or what it is to do!
