My understanding is that the XML sitemaps are more of an aid than anything else.

If you read a magazine then you know there are various sections within the magazine devoted to different stories and subjects and you can find these by flicking through the pages but if you look at the contents page you can get a quick overview of what is within the magazine and where it can be found.

I think of XML sitemaps in the same regards… you don’t need them in order to have Google and other search engines index your pages but having them there allows them to find the content quicker and easier, especially with bigger sites and blogs with lots of pages.

I fully agree. The redirection plugin is really useful for affiliates. But I don’t think that the XML Sitemap makes a difference for blogs which are quick indexed always – aren’t they?
